The Southeastern Summer Theatre Insitute (SSTI) is a summer intensive for high schoolers. I worked as the production electrician which meant planning and orchestrating the plot as well as teaching high schoolers along the way.

I worked on hanging and circuiting the plot mainly by myself with students arriving soon after. I then led students to build set electrics and work on notes.

One of the largest challenges with Sweet Charity was the lack of documentation of the space due to it being a local high school. The inventory was vague and there was no circuit map or power/data documentation. I received the plot the day prior to hang. This process taught me about working on the fly when there are not the resources to plan as there are in an educational setting.

Due to the raceway system, I did not plan out which light was assigned to which circuit. Instead, I picked the most convenient and effective circuit and wrote it down for future reference. This saved me from taking time away from hang to plan.

The show was full of set electrics that I mentored students to complete. This included the LIFE sign, the chaser portal, the NeoFlex portal, and the Fandango sign. They had the reigns while I recommend what I would have done if I was them and made sure they were not making mistakes that would affect the timeline or budget.
